Spain: a country to be experienced, not just visited
Many times we think that to live real experiences you have to go far away. That the special is on the other side of the world and that the everyday is not surprising. But when you live in Spain, that idea becomes difficult to sustain. Our country -the one we always have, the one we sometimes take for granted- is, objectively, one of the most privileged places on the planet to live, discover and rediscover.
We do not say this out of pride, but because of data. The World Tourism Organization places Spain, year after year, among the two most visited countries in the world. And that’s not just a ranking: it’s a reminder. Millions of people travel thousands of miles to enjoy what we have within reach of a train ticket or a two-hour drive.
And yet, many Spaniards barely know a small part of the country where we live. We have flown to New York, Japan or Thailand, but we may not have seen the sunrise in Somiedo, walked through the golden silence of the Axarquia in spring or discovered the hidden valleys of the Maestrazgo. We live in a country so diverse that it changes every hundred or hundred and fifty kilometers; sometimes even less.

A small country on the map, but infinite in possibilities
The OECD recognizes Spain as one of the European territories with the greatest climatic and geographic diversity. It is a technical phrase, but what it means is extraordinary: we coexist with Atlantic, Mediterranean, subtropical, mountainous and semi-arid climates in a compact territory. In a few hours you can be in a desert, in a rainforest, on a warm beach or in a snowy mountain range.
This variety is not just a tourist attraction; it is a vital opportunity. It allows us to live different experiences without giving up the comfort of what is close by, without complications and without the need to take airplanes. Spain is a country that fits in a car, but never runs out.
I recently came across a curious anecdote that made me smile. A creator on TikTok uploaded a video titled “Exploring Spain until it’s ugly”. This tiktoker has the habit of “touring” countries in a peculiar way: he opens Google Maps, chooses a completely random spot and, with a single click, virtually plants himself in that place to see what it’s like. Your challenge is to repeat it over and over again until an ugly site appears. When it was Spain’s turn, it never found that “ugly” corner. Each random jump led him to a beautiful landscape, a well-kept street, a charming village or a luminous natural environment. This is not a scientific study, nor is it necessary. It is simply a nice anecdote that confirms something that those of us who live here already intuitively know: Spain is a country where even improvisation often takes you to beautiful places.
A country that combines history, life and culture like few others.
UNESCO ranks Spain as one of the countries in the world with the most World Heritage Sites. But the real magic goes beyond the monuments, and is intertwined with everyday life: in those squares that are the scene of social life, in the markets where our tradition is still alive, in the festivals that preserve centuries of identity, in the cuisine that changes from one town to another as if they were different countries.
To travel through Spain is to travel through centuries while still feeling contemporary.

A luxury hotel network
In addition to all this wealth, there is an element that we often overlook: the Spanish hotel network. It is no coincidence that it is among the highest rated internationally. Decades of hospitality culture, professionalism and dedication to service have created a unique ecosystem: well-located, well-kept, comfortable and accessible hotels, especially outside the high season.
For those who want to live flexibly – a month here, a month there – Spain is an ideal country. You can change scenery, climate or pace without giving up the comfort of having everything done: breakfast, cleanliness, attention, the tranquility of knowing that each place works as it should. To live seasons like this is to live freely. Living depeeme.
